n/a In this video, we will show you some tips and tricks for lighting your Elgato green screen. 1st, the important thing to remember when lighting a green screen is having even lighting. The process of keying is where a specific color in an image is removed and made transparent or replaced with another. If your green screen has uneven lighting, its colors can look inconsistent on your camera and result in a noisy or incomplete color key, which might take some fine tuning Light. Having lights too close to your green screen can cause bright spots and change how your green screen appears on camera.
n/a Try to use lights that have a soft, wide Chroma, such as key light or key light air. Avoid shadows landing on your green screen. Using multiple lights at an angle will help you avoid shadows interfering with a clean key. As an example, try having 2 sets of lights about 30 degrees on either side of you. This will light you very evenly, but will also avoid noticeable shadows.
n/a Shadows affect the color of the screen captured by your camera. Try to keep space between you or your subject and green screen as this will help with softening and diffusing shadows, providing cleaner and sharper results after keying. This will also prevent color spill where the green color will bounce back onto the subject. Keep your green screen away from windows or direct sunlight when in use. Light from the sun and sky can change over time throughout the day and affect the colors seen by your camera and therefore the color keying.
n/a Keeping your green screen away from sunlight is also best for prolonging the color and fabric. Lastly, keep your lights consistent, meaning match their brightness and color temperature. This is easy with Elgato's lights and control center by locking the lights together in controls. Using lights with different brightness or color temperature can result in uneven lighting and for a less clean key. Here are some example lighting setups you could consider lighting with ring light.
n/a Ring light provides a softer light source for a single light due to its size. This is a good option if space on your desk is limited. A step up would be 2 Light Airs, 1 on either side of you. This will provide even lighting and have reduced shadows. Stepping up to 2 larger key lights will allow for more even lighting and softer shadows.
n/a You can also offset the key lights to create more dynamic lighting while still having a clean chroma key. And finally, you can use a Key Light Mini behind your chair to help reduce shadows even further. These are just a handful of examples you can use to get started lighting your green screen for best results in streaming or creating.
