This API leverages Google’s extensive mapping infrastructure and machine learning to provide sub-meter solar insights. It transforms raw aerial imagery into actionable data points: rooftop dimensions, slope, and precise shading patterns from nearby vegetation or structures. Solar installers use the building-insights endpoint to qualify leads remotely, while the data-layers endpoint provides raw flux and DSM files for custom CAD integrations. By mapping over 320 million buildings, Google enables developers to calculate annual sunshine hours and potential energy yield (kWh) in seconds.
