NetShow AEI
A legacy Microsoft framework for synchronizing streaming media with interactive HTML events in early distance learning applications.
NetShow AEI (Active Education Interface) functioned as the core synchronization layer for Microsoft's late-1990s streaming ecosystem. It allowed developers to bind streaming video or audio to specific browser actions: flipping slides, triggering scripts, or displaying captions at exact millisecond markers. Built to support NetShow 2.0, the interface leveraged ASX command files and ActiveX controls to deliver structured content over low-bandwidth (28.8 Kbps) networks. This technology effectively bridged the gap between passive media consumption and interactive instruction by integrating the NetShow Player directly with the web page's logic.
