Spatial Web

The Spatial Web is Web 3.0: a hyper-connected, contextually aware network that seamlessly integrates the physical and digital worlds using global, open standards.

The Spatial Web represents the internet's next major evolution: a unified cyber-physical network. It connects physical spaces, devices, people, and AI agents through a common language, moving beyond linking documents to linking objects and actions. This framework is formalized by global, IEEE-approved standards: the Hyperspace Modeling Language (HSML) and the Hyperspace Transaction Protocol (HSTP). HSML provides the grammar for describing relationships in space; HSTP defines secure transactions. These standards (ratified by the IEEE P2874 Working Group) ensure scalable interoperability, enabling autonomous systems to share context, collaborate intelligently, and operate ethically in the real world. For example, the EcoNet project demonstrated a 15-20 percent drop in energy costs and carbon emissions by using these protocols for dynamic device negotiation.
