MCP Client ↔ MCP Server
An open standard connecting AI models to local data and remote tools via a universal JSON-RPC interface.
MCP replaces fragmented integrations with a unified protocol for AI clients (Claude Desktop, IDEs) to securely access servers (Postgres, GitHub, Slack). By using a standardized JSON-RPC 2.0 handshake, developers expose data as resources, functions as tools, and templates as prompts. This architecture removes the need for custom glue code for every new LLM application. A single MCP server provides real-time context to any compatible client, drastically reducing the engineering overhead required to ground models in private or specialized datasets.
