Even the most devoted readers face periods where they just cant seem to get back into the world of books. Unlike television shows which tend to be fast-paced and built to be binged books require a tad more attention. Reading is an activity that asks someone to bring their imagination fully online as they move from one world into another.
Sadly, the human attention span has officially evolved into one shorter than that of a goldfish. I often find myself struggling to focus on anything outside the dopamine-drenched wonderland that is social media. In the midst of my recovery/dopamine-detox, Ive been on the hunt for books capable of holding my seven-second attention span. If youre dealing with a similar problem, stick around, because these might also be able to hold yours!
Of course, this list will be totally spoiler-free! Ill just share one quick blurb per book to pique your interest, without completely ruining each story!
1.) Red Rising by Pierce Brown
Red Rising Book Cover (2014)
Red Rising
is the first installment of Pierce Browns exciting dystopian science fiction series. If youre a fan of
The Hunger Games
by Suzanne Collins
or
The Red Queen
by
Victoria Aveyard, this one is definitely for you. Set on Mars, a miner of extremely low-ranking blood works to terraform the new planet for incoming humans. However, upon realizing that he is practically a slave and losing his beloved wife, he decides to take a stand against society and climb the ranks through whatever means necessary. Those means involve a biological transformation, and all of the street smarts and survival skills hes gathered at the bottom of the social pyramid.
2.) All Systems Red by Martha Wells
